National Trust n.o. is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation whose mission is to protect cultural and natural heritage – the historic environment of Slovakia.
National Trust n.o. is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection, restoration and sustainable use of Slovakia’s cultural and natural heritage. Its work is inspired by the principles of the British National Trust, adapting them to the local context and the needs of local communities. Its primary aim is to preserve historic and natural sites and make them accessible to the public in accordance with the principles of long-term sustainability.
Our vision is to build a nationwide movement dedicated to saving cultural and natural heritage. Since 1996, we have been bringing to Slovakia a proven model of non-governmental restoration and management of historic places.
Our long-term goal is to build a strong membership and volunteer base that will actively engage in the protection of cultural and natural heritage. We connect Slovak heritage sites with the wider world through the international network of national trusts – INTO (International National Trusts Organisation).
We save places that would otherwise disappear. When historic buildings and gardens face deterioration and neglect, we step in – restoring them and bringing them back to life. Today, places such as Rómer’s House, Koch Garden in Bratislava, and the national cultural monument – the thatched-roof house in Bartošova Lehôtka near Kremnica, which we own, are coming back to life. We share their stories with the public through initiatives such as the nationwide Open Gardens and Parks Weekend.
