The Liptov Museum in Ružomberok is the largest museum in the Žilina Region. Its main building houses exhibitions focusing on the history of Liptov from prehistoric times up until the present day, and a natural history exhibition, which displays the regional fauna and flora. In addition to the main building, there are 10 more exhibitions that belong to the museum located elsewhere in the region.

These include the Peasant House and Courtyard in the village of Vlkolínec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This open-air museum is a well-preserved settlement with wooden log architecture and is still inhabited. Another exhibition worth exploring is Havránok, an archaeological site that has been turned into an open-air museum. It is located at the foot of the Havránok hill near Liptovská Mara, a large water reservoir, and its establishment was a result of one of the longest archaeological research projects in Slovakia. The research began during the construction of the reservoir as several villages were to be flooded. That is when the fortified Iron Age settlement protecting a sanctuary was discovered on the Havránok hill.

Tourists can also visit the Museum of Liptov Village, an open-air museum in Pribylina, which aims to preserve notable buildings from the now-flooded Liptovská Mara area. It also includes the reconstructed Považská Forest Railway, which was originally used to transport timber and forest workers. These days visitors can ride a historical train and explore this important route that connected the town of Liptovský Hrádok with the valleys of the Čierny Váh river for almost 60 years.
