Považské Museum

The Považské Museum in Žilina is a regional museum based in Budatín. His exhibitions focus on the history of the region, wire-pulling, and transportation. It is located in the premises of Budatín Castle in Žilina, where the castle exhibitions and the aforementioned exhibition of tinware are found. In addition to these, the museum also includes Strečno Castle, the Wedding Palace in Bytča, objects of folk architecture in Čičmany, the Jánošík exhibition in Terchová, and the Transportation Museum in Rajecké Teplice.

The museum has been located in Budatín Castle since 1954. Before that, its collections were housed in the town hall building in Mariánske námestie in Žilina. The establishment of the museum was first initiated by Ignác Rada, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Later, Vojtech Tvrdý and Eugen Medvecký continued with this idea. In the aforementioned year of 1954, the museum had only one employee – historian Vlastu Kristenová, but by the late 1950s, several experts began to join her, and the scientific research activities of the museum progressed. During the 1960s, the museum expanded with the aforementioned external exhibitions. After the restoration was completed, Strečno Castle was also made accessible to the public.

Since 2006, the museum's location – Budatín Castle has been undergoing reconstruction. The museum was reopened to visitors in 2019.
